A very rakish gent indeed...

I am slightly late posting this to say the least but here is my second illustration I have produced for The Rakish Gent blog. It was a pleasure to work with Tajinder again, be sure to check out all his fabulous thoughts on the world of men's fashion. More illustrations for his blog will follow shortly, so keep your eyes peeled for that.

The illustration features a Reiss suit and Dolce and Gabbana briefcase among other items. As for why i drew a pug? Why not?! I just can't resist their grumpy little faces! Check out the blog post here

Following on from my previous illustration, I had the fantastic opportunity of working with Tajinder Hayer of therakishgent.blogspot.co.uk again. This time it was for an illustration to accompany an article he was writing for the online lifestyle magazine, entouraaj.com

The article was all about first date fashion and my work was used to illustrate the 'casual look.'

I'm sure you'll agree that the article is written beautifully and that both mine (if i do say so myself) and illustrator Clare Neild's work goes alongside the article perfectly. I just want to personally thank Tajinder for  reaching out to various illustrators and helping them to promote their individual styles. It's a refreshing change to see illustration used in conjunction with photography for styling and i applaud him for it!

Fancy seeing you again....

Well it has been a long time hasn't it? I took quite a long hiatus from the art world and just generally had a break from it, while I assessed what to do next. I hadn't picked up a pencil in quite a while when the lovely Tajinder Hayer from therakishgent.blogspot.co.uk contacted me about creating a 'Look of the Week' illustration for his men's fashion blog 'The Rakish Gent.' After looking at his fabulous site and brilliant articles, how could i refuse?

Jess Buckley

Sorry for the lengthy absence and no new work, but life got in the way of blogging!

Way back in October, a lovely blogger called Jess Buckley got in touch with me about doing an art trade, something I had never done before. I agreed to create a portrait of Jess herself and she agreed to create me a portrait of one of my favourite female singers (I gave a few names so the outcome would be a surprise!)

A few days ago, we finally got around to swapping and here is the portrait that Jess did for me...

It is of course the wonderful Lady Gaga and i love the use of colour and texture Jess used. Here is the portrait i did for Jess...

Colour!

As an illustrator it is important to have a style that is recognisable as your own. However, many illustrators can adapt their signature style, depending on the work needed. Although my portrait work is very linear and 'clean', I also have a very different style, which is alot more colourful and character based.  Here are a few examples...

BIAD grad show

So that's it. I have officially finished uni!
A selection of my work is now up and ready to see at the BIAD graduate show 2012. The show is open to the public from Mon 11th June to Sat 16th June from 10am until 6pm, at the Gosta Green campus. Please pop in if you have the chance as there is some excellent work on show.

Magpie series

For my last project i decided to create a series of fashion illustrations, that played on the words of the magpie song:

'One for sorrow, Two for joy, Three for a girl, Four for a boy, Five for silver, Six for gold, Seven for a secret never to be told.'

Mexican inspired

Last year i created some illustrations on wood, inspired by Mexico. I was really interested in their Day of the Dead celebrations and stories such as drug cartels recruiting beautiful women as assassins!

Mexico is definitely a subject that i'd love to re visit in the future and create more work about... as soon as i get some spare time!
